In the midst of winter’s blast, golf enthusiasts living or working downtown have a new place to practice their swing, as the University of Toronto today opens a driving range on Varsity Centre’s state-of-the-art domed field.
The driving range will be open to the public Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To celebrate its opening, the university is offering free 45-minute sessions at the driving range until February 1st. After that, the cost is $23.00 per hour for the general public, $20.50 for members of U of T’s Athletic Centre and $17.50 for U of T students. Seniors also receive a 10% discount.
“We are tremendously excited about this initiative. It’s a great opportunity for golfers right in the heart of the city,” says Liz Hoffman, director of athletics for the U of T’s Faculty of Physical Education and Health. “It’s also a wonderful way to bring the community onto campus to enjoy this absolutely fabulous new facility.”
The new Varsity Centre includes a 5,000-seat stadium, 400m eight-lane track, artificial turf field and a dome over the field from December to April for winter use.
