What is the Varsity Centre? The Varsity Centre is a state-of-the-art athletic and recreation facility that includes a new 5,000-seat stadium, artificial turf field, air-supported dome for winter use and eight-lane international class track.

Construction is currently underway on the entryway pavilion and the track and field throws area. Future phases of Varsity Centre will include a revitalized Varsity Arena and a multi-storey Centre for High Performance Sport that will house laboratories for teaching and research, state-of-the-art equipment to monitor athletes’ progress, a dedicated strength training and assessment area, team rooms and more.

Where is the Varsity Centre? The Varsity Centre is located at the historic Varsity Stadium and Arena site at Bloor Street and Devonshire Place on the north end of the University of Toronto’s beautiful downtown campus.

Conveniently located on the TTC subway line, the Varsity Centre is just steps away from the St. George and Museum subway stations.

How much will it cost? The entire cost of the project is a projected $92.2 million.  The University of Toronto has invested the first $21.7 million, and is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise the remaining $70.5 million to complete the project.

What kind of events are hosted at the Varsity Centre? Continuing the tradition of the historic Varsity Stadium and Arena, the new world-class facilities at the Varsity Centre will enable U of T host a broad range of national and international sporting, recreational and cultural events.

Is Varsity Centre reserved for high performance athletics? No. The Varsity Centre is used for a wide range of activities, including intramural sports, general recreation and children’s programs.

Does broader community have access to the Varsity Centre? Yes. While U of T students are the primary users, members of U of T’s Athletic Centre also enjoy access to the Varsity Centre for jogging, indoor soccer, Ultimate Frisbee. Members can use the driving range at a reduced rate. Students can use it free of charge. Offerings to the broader community, such as the Junior Blues program for children and youth have also been greatly enhanced.

Community members are also welcome and encouraged to attend the many sports and cultural events Varsity Centre offers.
