The Philosophy
“The Varsity Centre reflects the University’s commitment to enhancing the student experience, both inside and outside the classroom. Whether as participants or spectators, all students can benefit from the array of athletic activities that will be on offer at the Varsity Centre.” – President David Naylor
The Varsity Centre significantly enhances learning beyond the classroom and the overall student experience, both priorities of U of T’s academic plan, Stepping UP. This state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility is used primarily to meet the needs of U of T students, as a competition and practice venue for intercollegiate sports and intramural teams.
The new Varsity Centre also contributes to the revitalization of sport and physical activity across the GTA, by providing a venue for schools boards’, provincial and national sports organizations’ championships, the preparation of physical education teachers and coaches, and training of Olympic athletes – all supported by the Faculty of Physical Education and Health’s outstanding sports scientists and labs.
While the centre is a "students-first facility," it also creates an extraordinary opportunity for U of T to extend its reach into the community through a range of programs, services and rental options, as well as enhancing Toronto’s ability to play host to national and international sporting events.
