5,000-Seat Stadium

Stadium Seating
The stadium provides permanent seating for 5,000 spectators, with ample wheelchair accessibility on two levels. The seating is raised one metre above the playing field to provide excellent sightlines throughout the stadium. Elevator stops provide access to the media gondola and to wheelchair spaces above.
Lighting
Reflective of Varsity Centre’s versatility, the flexible lighting system is designed to accommodate a range of activities, from nighttime jogging to high profile, televised events. Individual programmable controls mean lighting can be tailored to event requirements, keeping energy consumption down and limiting the amount of light that spills into the surrounding neighbourhood and into the night sky.
Photo-timing
An eight-lane photo-timed system specifically designed for track and field will ensure IAAF-caliber timing. Designed with the latest technology and used at major athletic events around the world, including the 2005 Prefontaine Classic, the 2005 USATF Indoor National Championships and the 2001 Francophone Games in Ottawa, ON, the system is of the highest standard of digital photo-timing in the world.
Varsity Plaza
Varsity Plaza, located at the northwest corner of the site, is a welcoming northern gateway to both Varsity Centre and the University of Toronto’s downtown campus. The terraced plaza is a place to rest and relax while viewing stadium events or street activity. The accessible upper terrace provides a slightly elevated view of the field and campus skyline, and the lower plaza offers a shady meet-and-greet space beneath a cluster of oaks, the U of T tree.
