Building on Tradition

Varsity Stadium and Arena have an outstanding legacy as two of the best known Canadian venues for sports, recreation and culture.

Home to U of T’s Varsity Blues football team for over 100 years, Varsity Stadium also hosted many of the early Grey Cup and Vanier Cup games, and has been the site of countless local, regional, national and international championships in track and field, soccer and lacrosse.

Varsity Arena hosts the Varsity Blues men’s and women’s hockey teams, the Blues figure skating team and one of the largest intramural hockey programs in North America, with about 1,500 students participating each year. Far from a single-purpose facility, Varsity Arena has also been a venue for rock concerts and political leadership conventions.

The new Varsity Centre builds on this rich history, creating exciting opportunities for the U of T community, the city of Toronto and beyond. It strengthens U of T’s capacity to offer outstanding recreational and competitive programs to students, community members and regional, national and international sports organizations. And it offers a state-of-the-art venue for sports enthusiasts to enjoy spectator events.

It’s a whole new ball game for sport and recreation at the University of Toronto!
